Police: Mt. Laurel man hits parked cars while fleeing domestic disturbance investigation

Once caught, police say man punched and spit at Mt. Laurel Police officers until finally subdued.

The following report is on file with the Mt. Laurel Police Department:

At 11:48 p.m. on Jan. 6, Mt. Laurel Police responded to Coventry Way at Manchester Way for a domestic disturbance.

Police say the investigation revealed that Clyde S. DeShields, age 37, of Mt. Laurel, was intoxicated and was involved in a dispute.

According to police, the man attempted to drive away from the area and crashed into three parked cars. He tried to drive away from the first crash and crashed into two more parked cars, which disabled the vehicle.

Police arrived as DeShields walked away from the scene. He refused to stop when ordered to by police and a foot pursuit ensued.

Police say once officers caught up with him, he punched and spit at them, and he continued to physically resist even after being handcuffed.

DeShields was charged with aggravated assault on police, throwing bodily fluids on a police officer, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice, driving while intoxicated and several motor vehicle violations.

He was committed to the Burlington County Jail pending a court hearing.
