Evesham Mayor Randy Brown decides against run for governor of New Jersey

However, at a Jan. 12 press conference, Brown said he would not entirely rule out a spot on the Republican ticket as lieutenant governor.

During a press conference this afternoon NFL Baltimore Ravens kicking coach and Evesham Mayor Randy Brown once again described himself as a team player.

With that in mind, Brown officially announced he would not be running in the upcoming primary to determine the New Jersey Republican Party’s next candidate for governor.

With his obligations as mayor of Evesham Township, his work with the Baltimore Ravens, his work in local title insurance and the time he spends with his wife and young children, Brown said he was not ready to leave those commitments behind to fully dedicate his time to a run for governor.

“I decided it was the best interest of the team that I would not be the person at the top of the ticket this year,” Brown said.

Brown said a run for governor would consume his life for the next nine months, and on top of needing to raise somewhere near $20 million, Brown said right now he was not in a position to leave his work in title insurance and the NFL.

“I am not a wealthy person, and unfortunately, I see politics trending towards if you’re not a multimillionaire, you’re not going to be able to win statewide elections, which is disappointing,” Brown said.

However, Brown said he would not rule out running on the Republican ticket should the eventual nominee chose him for the spot as lieutenant governor.

When there was talk last year of Gov. Christie potentially assuming a role as President-Elect Donald Trump’s vice president or filling a position in his cabinet, Brown said he did speak with Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno about serving as lieutenant governor had she become governor herself.

Still, Brown said he wouldn’t need to make any decision on running as lieutenant governor until after the primary, and even then such a run would require a great sacrifice on his part.

Brown stopped short of endorsing Guadagno, saying he wouldn’t do so until she at least officially announced her campaign.
