Benjamin M. Handy, 85, of Gloucester, VA and formerly of Winslow passed away on Sunday in Inspira Hospital in Vineland.
Born in Winslow, he lived there until moving to Virginia in 1991. Before retiring he proudly served for 25 years as a police officer with the Winslow Township Police Department. He served in the US Navy from 1955 to 1957. Mr. Handy was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
He was predeceased by his stepsons, Stanley and Kevin Spotwood. He is survived by his wife, Margaret L. Handy (nee Woods); his daughter Kimberly Handy-Matthews and her husband Mark of Williamstown; his stepdaughters, Linda Thomas (Ronald) of Erial; Judy Martin (David) of Berlin; his three brothers, James Handy of Florida, Charles Handy of Berlin; Robert Handy of Atco; three sisters, Louella Freeman of Sicklerville, Marie Covington of Atco; Beatrice Moorman of Lindenwold; his grandchildren: Devon Matthews, Lisa, Stanley, Christina, Tiffany, Mahogany, Ronald, Tracy, David and Andre; 14 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, Jan. 7 at the Carnesale Funeral Home, 202 S. Third St., Hammonton. A burial followed at Winslow Methodist Cemetery.
