Re-elected council members Orlando Mercado and Tracey Trotto were sworn in as President and Vice-President
Members of the Gloucester Township council are returning for 2017, and they held their annual reorganization meeting on Jan. 3, selecting Orlando Mercado as president for the second year in a row and Tracey Trotto as vice president for the second year in a row, as well.
Assemblywoman Gabriela Mosquera was on hand to administer the oath to Mercado and Trotto with their families by their sides.
“I’m always looking forward to doing what we can to make the township a better place to live, work and play,” Trotto said after being re-elected in November. ”I’ve raised my two children here, and we’ve been an active part of the community, and we hope to continue to see that and hope to get the residents more involved their community and know what’s going on.”
“We had a challenging year last year with our budget, but we’re a resilient community, and if you’re going to live in a community where people think that maybe our taxes are high, we have to offer them in return,” Mercado said. “If they are going to be paying premium taxes, they need to receive premium services in return. I want people to feel good about where they live and the different services we provide here.”
In addition, Daniel Hutchison was appointed to the Planning Board and Stephanie Roberts, Joanne Carr, Lucy Middlecamp, Robert Irvine, Jeff Lilley, Jasmine Robinson and Katrina Hauserman were appointed to the Historical and Scenic Preservation Committee. Kelly Matthews was appointed to the Housing Authority, and Kevin Bucceroni and Carmen Scarduzio were appointed to the Zoning Board of Adjustment, with Michelle Scully and Ken Treger as the alternates.
Council’s upcoming meetings are scheduled for Jan. 11 and Jan. 25.
