Weekly Roundup: Mt. Laurel Council reverses course on dog park and police investigate extortion

This week Mt. Laurel Township Council decided against a dog park originally proposed at a spot on Mt. Laurel Road, Mt. Laurel Police investigated a suspect alleged to have extorted money from Mt Laurel victim by threatening to release sexually explicit photographs and Santa Claus is preparing to visit Mt. Laurel. Mt. Laurel Council decides against dog park for site on Mt. Laurel Road

Mt. Laurel Township Council has decided against a site on Mt. Laurel Road across from Chapel Hill Road for a new dog park. Instead, council plans to explore options on Marne Highway and a spot across from the school district administration building further down on Mt. Laurel Road.

Mt. Laurel Police investigate suspect alleged to have extorted money from Mt. Laurel victim by threatening to release sexually explicit photographs

At the end of November a Mt. Laurel resident reported that a man demanded that the victim send him over $900 or he would post her photographs online. The victim wired over $900 to someone in Illinois. After that the suspect demanded more money, prompting the victim to report the crime to police.

Mt. Laurel Township offered savings to renew early in Burlington County Joint Insurance Fund

Representatives from the Burlington County Joint Insurance Fund spoke at the Dec. 5 Mt. Laurel Township Council meeting and offered the township about $117,000 in savings to re-enroll in the fund on Jan. 1, one year earlier than the township’s current renewal date of Jan. 1, 2018. Those savings may or may not be available next year when different calculations are used to assess the township.

Santa Claus gets ready to visit Mt. Laurel

On Thursday, Dec. 15, “Santa Comes to Mt. Laurel.” From 4 to 7 p.m. Santa Claus will be at The Mt. Laurel Community Center.

Santa will also be visitng the township on Dec. 17 when Santa rides throughout Mt. Laurel on fire engine.
