Lutheran Church of Our Savior host numerous holiday events this December

The Lutheran Church of Our Savior Oasis Senior High Youth Group will sponsor its annual Drop ‘N Shop for parents and friends of the congregation from 11:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4.

Children of all ages are invited to enjoy supervised activities that include playing games and watching movies while their parents do some holiday shopping. Lunch will be provided for children.

Free will donations are accepted and given to the Advent Giving Tree outreach effort to underprivileged families in the County.

Parents will be asked to sign their child(ren) in and out and provide an emergency contact number.

The annual Advent Giving Tree is set up in the Narthex of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior to benefit those who are less fortunate.

Participants are asked to take a tag from the tree, sign the participants’ sheet, purchase the item on the tag (limit $25) and return the gift wrapped with the tag attached by Sunday, Dec. 11 at 10:30 a.m. Monetary gifts also will be accepted.

Organizations scheduled to benefit include My Father’s House, Urban Promise, Caring Hearts, Haddonfield schools, Collingswood schools and families served by the LCOS pantry.

The Children’s Christmas Pageant at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior will be held Sunday, Dec. 11 at 4 p.m.

The pageant will be a dramatic and musical look at the nativity as seen through the eyes of two children of the time.

There will be a dinner in the Parish Hall after the pageant.

Anyone interested in Christmas Caroling on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Coles Landing Senior Complex on Coles Landing Road in Haddon Township should meet at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior at 1:45 p.m.

The Church is located at 204 Wayne Avenue, at the corner of Wood Lane and Wayne Avenue. Caroling at Coles Landing will begin at 2 p.m.

In preparation for the Christmas season, the Lutheran Church of Our Savior will present a special Lessons and Carols service on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 10:30 a.m.

This festive service will celebrate the Advent and Christmas seasons by featuring adult, youth and children’s choirs, orchestra and organ including works of composers such as Antonio Vivaldi and Felix Mendelssohn.

Advent and Christmas readings and hymns round out the service, including such classics as “Hark The Herald Angels Sing” and “It Came Upon A Midnight Clear.

The public is welcomed to attend. There will be refreshments prior to the service.

Senior Game Day will be held at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 12:30 p.m.

Seniors are invited to attend to play bingo, bridge, pinochle and other games in the Parish Hall. Lunch is available for an annual one-time donation of $15.

The next Senior Game Day is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017.

Christmas Week at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior will begin with three candlelight Communion worship services on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24 at 5, 8:30 and 11 p.m.

The 5 p.m. service is a Family Worship with children’s sermon, and both children’s and cherub choirs and children’s bell choir.

At 8:30, there will be a traditional/youth worship with the youth bell and vocal choirs and a traditional sermon.

There will be a classic midnight worship at 11 p.m. with adult bell and vocal choirs, and a traditional sermon. Communion will be celebrated at all services and worship will conclude with the congregation joining in the singing of Silent Night as candles are extinguished.

There will be just one worship service on Sunday, Christmas Day, at 9:30 a.m. and children are encouraged to attend in their pajamas.

Also, there will be one worship service at 9:30 a.m. on New Year’s Day, Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017.

Everyone is invited to attend and worship.
