More than 200 people came out to The Mansion on Main Street on Nov. 17 for an educational and inspirational evening filled with terrific silent and live auction items and delicious food and drinks to raise awareness and dollars for Mitochondrial Disease at the inaugural Cousins For A Cure gala in honor of local Cherry Hill resident, Sydney Breslow. More than $186,000 was raised for The Logan Sloane Aronson Research Fund.
The featured speaker was CNN Host and Sirius Radio personality, Michael Smerconish, who gave his insights about the recent Presidential election. Sydney Breslow, diagnosed with mitochondrial disease at 8-years-old, spoke about how her disease taught her that ‘despite any challenge, she can accomplish everything she puts her mind to’. Sydney will soon complete a master’s degree in special education and pursue her passion to work with students with disabilities.
Each year, 1,000 to 4,000 children in the United States are born with a mitochondrial disease. Sydney’s specific mitochondrial disorder causes difficulties with her balance, vision, speech and walking.
