Holiday tree lighting at The Promenade at Sagemore in Marlton on Friday, Nov. 18

Read about the tree lighting and other upcoming winter events to keep residents busy throughout the end of the year.

People say it seems to get here earlier every year, but the holiday season will soon be upon Evesham, and with it will come a plethora of fun events to keep residents entertained.

Just around the corner, a now yearly tradition returns with The Promenade at Sagemore’s Tree Lighting Ceremony, set to take place on Friday, Nov. 18 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Mayor Randy Brown will serve as a special guest for the event, and he will light the tree along with the 12U Marlton Reds baseball team, which became the 2016 MidAtlantic champions in Cal Ripken baseball earlier this year.

WOGL 98.1FM DJ Frank Lewis is also scheduled to serve as guest announcer for the evening, during which he’ll lead the crowd in counting down to lighting the tree.

Lest residents think the tree lighting is the only piece of the event, attendees will also get to listen to seasonal music from Cherokee High School’s Chamber Choir and String Quartet and ride on a trolley.

If that isn’t enough fun, Santa Claus will also be stopping by to say hello to all the good little boys and girls of Evesham.

Rastelli Market Fresh will also provide refreshments throughout the evening.

The event also serves a dual purpose of lighting a tree while also lighting up the lives of some of the area’s less fortunate.

Those who attend the Tree Lighting Ceremony are encouraged to bring holiday gifts for those helped by the Center for Family Services, as well as pet food donations for the Camden County Pet Food Pantry.

Donations can be brought to the ceremony on Nov. 18 or dropped off at The Promenade’s concierge services.

Should residents miss the tree lighting and their first chance to see Santa, they won’t have to wait long to get some holiday cheer, as Evesham’s other holiday tradition, Winterfest, is set to take place on Friday, Dec. 2 at the Evesham Fire-Rescue’s Main Street Firehouse.

Hosted by the Evesham Celebrations Foundation and Evesham Fire-Rescue, the event allows Evesham families to come inside the firehouse, warm up and wait for Santa Claus to arrive.

The event is scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m., and as always, kids will be able wait for Santa with hot chocolate, cookies and arts and crafts.

Once Santa slides down the firehouse poll, kids can wait in line to get a picture with old St. Nick and his elves.

Throughout December, the Evesham Library will also provide several holiday events for adults, kids and families alike.

On Dec. 7, residents can join Victorian Vanities at the library at 7 p.m. for a presentation entitled “10 Fascinating Things You Probably Didn’t Know about Christmas.”

Victorian Vanities, a federally qualified non-profit organization with a mission to educate the general public regarding aspects of America, will educate residents with little-known Christmas facts and history.

On Dec. 12 at 6:30 p.m., the library will feature a “Holiday Make and Take Craft” where kids of all ages can get ready for some fun and creativity with holiday crafts.

On Dec. 15 at 7 p.m., those ages 14 to 18 can make a Tree of Life pendant at the library for use as a necklace or on a keychain. This craft will be winter-inspired, and participants can choose to give their pendant snowy branches or model it after the red and green of a holly tree.

Then on Dec. 19 at 10:30 a.m., kids ages 3 to 6 can visit the library for a holiday-themed story time full of seasonal fun and a gingerbread craft.

Finally, on Dec. 20 at 6:30 p.m., the library will hold a gingerbread cookie decorating class for teens with special needs. Those of all abilities ages 12 to 19 are welcome to celebrate the season by decorating gingerbread men cookies.
