The Shamong Township Committee will remain the same with incumbents and Republicans Mayor Timothy L. Gimbel and Deputy Mayor Michael DiCroce winning last Tuesday’s election.
According to unofficial results from the Burlington County Board of Elections, DiCroce received 35.26 percent of the votes, and Gimbel received 35.21 percent. Democratic challengers Robert Rinaldi and Jeannette Amodeo received 14.31 percent and 15.15 percent of the votes, respectively.
“First, we would like to thank all of the residents of Shamong who came out to vote. It was a record turnout. And you have certainly made your voices heard. From the presidential office to our local community boards, from the Senate to county freeholders, we have all been put on notice. We need to be more transparent and fiscally responsible to our constituents. Being an elected official is not career, it is privilege,” Gimbel and DiCroce said in a joint statement.
“Mike and I are very excited about continuing our efforts to keep and make Shamong the pride of Burlington County. As always, we look for your input into our efforts. Please feel to join us on the first and last Tuesday of each month as we discuss your town,” Gimbel said.
“We will continue to: encourage all residents and local businesses, and any governmental spending we control, to spend money in Shamong first; to cut spending, focus on increasing revenues, not raise taxes; be respectful of all of our residents, many of whom are…fighting hard to make ends meet in these very tough economic times; be business friendly; encourage new responsible events, while treasuring our special environment; and, by sharing our natural beauty and first class businesses and residents with visitors, who are just discovering Shamong for the first time,” DiCroce said. “We will continue to learn and be responsive to your needs as we go forward. As someone who has traveled to many third world countries, and lived abroad, I am so very proud to be an American, where our Constitution prevails, and to live in Shamong. Thank you, we are grateful and humbled by your outpouring of support and trust.”
Shamong Township Schools’ Board of Education will see Jeffrey S. Warner and Jeffrey Siedlecki filling the two open seats on the board, as they both ran uncontested. Siedlecki received 49.12 percent of the votes, and Warner received 50.41 percent of the votes.
In the 3rd Congressional District of the House of Representatives, incumbent Republican Tom MacArthur won over Democrat Frederick John LaVergne and Lawrence W. Berlinski, Jr. of the Constitution Party for the one open seat. MacArthur received 52.81 percent of the votes.
Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders Republican incumbent Latham “Robert” Tiver received the most votes over Democrat Reva Foster, with 51.48 percent of the votes. The county sheriff will remain the same with Republican incumbent Jean Stanfield receiving 52.13 percent of the vote over Democratic challenger James H. Kostoplis.
For county surrogate, Freeholder and Republican Mary Ann O’Brien received 51.64 percent of the vote with Democrat Sander Friedman receiving 48.34 percent of the vote.
The first statewide referendum question that asked if voters approved of amending the state constitution to permit casino gambling in North Jersey did not pass, with 78 percent of voters opposed.
The second referendum question that asked if voters approved of amending the state constitution to dedicate all revenue from the state motor fuels tax and petroleum products gross receipts tax to the Transportation Trust Fund passed by a slight margin, passed with 54 percent of voters approving.
The unofficial results do not include mail-in or provisional ballots.
