Marlton Middle School students ‘Escape the Room’ with math

Students worked on solving equations, writing linear equations and solving word problems all modeled off of the popular “Escape the Room.”

Recently at Marlton Middle School, students in Donna Dancsec’s math classes got to experience a culminating activity for their last math chapter modeled off of the popular “Escape the Room.”

The eighth-grade students completed a series of math tasks involving solving equations, writing linear equations, and solving word problems involving linear relationships.

After they worked together to solve a problem, they scanned a QR code, which then gave them clues to help discover a digit in the combination to a lock based on the answer to their task.

Each QR code also gave them clues as to where in the room they could find their next task.

Once they had a three-digit code, they unlocked a chained box and followed directions to complete a puzzle, which ultimately led to another lock and eventually led them to the key to unlock or “escape the room.”
