High school sports playoff roundup: Cherry Hill East girls’ volleyball loses in state quarterfinals

Cherry Hill West boys’ soccer also saw its season end earlier this week in the sectional semifinals against Hammonton High School.

Cherry Hill East girls’ volleyball’s run in the NJSIAA Group IV playoffs ended on Tuesday, as the Cougars lost a tight match against Livingston High School, 2–0.

Livingston won the match, 25–18, 25–21. Kat Koziol had 10 digs to lead the Cougars. Sarah Pintel registered nine kills and Megan O’Rourke had 13 assists.

Cherry Hill East finished the season with 21 wins, the most in program history. The team also made the playoffs for the 23rd consecutive season.

Cherry Hill West boys’ soccer loses in overtime to Hammonton

On Monday, Cherry Hill West boys’ soccer’s season also ended as they lost in overtime, 2–1, to Hammonton High School in the South Jersey Group III semifinals.

Jason Kahan scored the Lions’ only goal in the game’s first half. Hammonton’s Michael Alessandro tied the game with a goal in the second half and then scored again in overtime to win the game for the Blue Devils.

Cherry Hill West finished its 2016 season with a 20–3 record and both the Olympic Conference National Division and South Jersey Soccer Coaches’ Association Tournament titles.
