Stephen Matarazzo IBD Conference taking place in Cherry Hill on Nov. 16

The conference will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cherry Hill.

Fifteen nationally-recognized gastroenterologists will address a wide range of issues associated with inflammatory bowel disease at the annual Dr. Stephen Matarazzo IBD Conference scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 16 at the Crowne Plaza in Cherry Hill.

Atlantic Gastro Education Foundation in Egg Harbor Township sponsors the conference, which is now in its fourth year. This is the only conference in New Jersey endorsed by the American College of Gastroenterology. The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America Philadelphia/Delaware Valley Chapter also endorses the event.

The event will run from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the hotel. Concurrent sessions are available for both medical professionals and the public.

Among the topics to be covered are new treatments, conception and pregnancy, the disease’s psychological effects, the dangers of opioid use with the disease and raising a child with inflammatory bowel disease.

IBD is an inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract that causes painful symptoms including stomach cramps, bloating, diarrhea and constipation. A few of the psychological effects include depression, isolation and anxiety. This incurable disease, which includes Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis, is estimated to affect over 1.6 million Americans.

Admission to the conference is $20 for the public and includes lunch. The public can preregister at 2016IBDconferencepublic.eventbrite.com.

Medical professionals attending the event earn 4.5 CME credits.
