The event will be held at First Baptist Church, 19 West Main Street.
Church Women United of Moorestown will hold a Celebration of Human Rights on Friday morning, Nov. 4, with Vedra Chandler of the Camden Neighborhood Center as program presenter. At 9:30 a.m., a continental breakfast will be served, to be followed by the program at 10 a.m. The event will be held at First Baptist Church, 19 West Main Street.
Vedra Chandler is the Artistic and Programming Director of Camden Neighborhood Center, Inc. A Camden native, she is a graduate of Harvard University and has enjoyed a very successful musical career as a performer. She has sung in the Broadway musical, “Hairspray,” been lead Soul singer with the Cirque du Soleil performing company, and is a member of the Marian Anderson Music Guild. She is a passionate supporter of families living in Camden and is a volunteer at Cathedral Kitchen.
In her service at the Neighborhood Center, she strives to break the cycle of poverty by empowering young people. This past summer she and a group of youth visited Cuba, where they met with youth in somewhat similar situations to theirs to share and learn from each other. The video from this experience will be included in Vedra’s program, along with some of her songs and a celebration of the worth and rights of all people.
All are welcome at this event, including school students who are having recess from school on this day. General parking will be in the town parking lot; limited parking for persons having special needs will be found on the east side of the church, with entrance from West Main Street.
