Letter to the Editor: Hagerty

It seems that in our own little town of Moorestown, there will be no debate between the Republicans and Democrats running for Town Council. Apparently, the League of Women Voters has offered to moderate a debate, but the Republican candidates have refused, citing bias on the part of the League. My understanding is that they will agree to a debate if the Ethics Committee moderates it. I didn’t know we had an Ethics Committee, but I am told that the members of that committee were appointed by the mostly Republican Council.

I’m wondering what is ethical about that?

The water problem is something I would like to see talked about so that I can understand fully how this has gotten so out of control. And what they plan to do to fix the problem. The videos I have seen of Council meetings show me a Council that is more concerned with blaming others and comparing what happens in Maple Shade to what happens here, than fixing the problem. I’d be very interested in knowing why Victoria Napolitano and Phil Garwood and Mike Locatell don’t think it’s in the public’s best interest to debate these issues. I’ve spoken to the Democratic team and they want a debate.

The League of Women Voters has an unimpeachable reputation. Moderating debates is one of the things they do, and they do it with great integrity. It makes no sense that the Republicans won’t meet their opponents in an open forum so that we can be informed and make an educated decision about who we want making decisions for our township. I think it’s unacceptable. And they should be pushed to do it by everyone who cares about how this town is run.
