Spotted: Birders Head to Brigantine Migratory Refuge

Free, Full-Day Trip Leaving from Medford Leas on Oct. 20

You’ll be as free as a bird when you have an entire day to explore the more than 47,000 acres of coastal habitats at the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge with a group of birders leaving from Medford Leas located at One Medford Leas Way on Thursday, Oct. 20 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The refuge in Brigantine is actively managed for migratory birds, and the trip likely will provide sightings of a wide assortment of birds including bald eagles, Atlantic brant, Green-winged Teal, Northern Pintail, Ring-necked Ducks and more. Birders of all age, skill level and experience, including first-timers, are welcome.

The refuge’s location on one of the Atlantic Flyway’s most active flight paths make it an important link in seasonal bird migration. Its value for the protection of water birds and their habitat continues to increase as the New Jersey shore area continues to be developed for human use.

To secure your spot at no cost, register by October 14 by calling (856) 654–3588. Participants are responsible for their binoculars and transportation to and from Brigantine. This trip will require self-pay for your own lunch at Shea’s Café and Bakery in Galloway. This trip is sponsored in collaboration with Medford Leas Birders.

Medford Leas is a nationally accredited, not-for-profit community guided by Quaker principles for those aged 55 and older, with campuses in Medford and Lumberton, New Jersey. For more information, call (609) 654–3000 or visit www.medfordleas.org.
