Thursday, Oct. 6 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. all Medford-area residents are invited to come out and donate blood at Medford United Methodist Church located at 2 Hartford Rd. The church hosts three drives per year, with a goal of obtaining at least 55 pints per drive. This is essential to maintaining Burlington County’s ready supply.

Many participants donate in memory of a loved one or in the spirit of volunteerism. The experiences at MUMC are no different.

“It takes a lot of time and energy to get the right amount of volunteers and donors,” said Lesley Koengetter, organizer.” But we remember Avis as a true inspiration, and it spurs us on to make the next call.”

During her lifetime, Avis Bombay successfully ran the Red Cross Blood Drive at Medford United Methodist Church year after year. She volunteered for the American Red Cross and served as chairperson of blood services, helping Burlington County to become one of the most successful in the country.

During her lifetime, Avis Bombay successfully ran the Red Cross Blood Drive at Medford United Methodist Church year after year. She volunteered for the American Red Cross and served as chairperson of blood services, helping Burlington County to become one of the most successful in the country.

She had been presented with many awards by the American Red Cross during her 27 years of service. This service led many others to become involved in her legacy; Lesley Koengetter has succeeded Bombay as the chairperson for this event after her passing in January of this year.

Donors must be at least 17 years of age, 110 pounds and in good general health in addition to feeling well on the day of donation. All volunteer blood donors must be evaluated to determine their eligibility to give blood.

The final determination will be made on the day of the donation at the blood drive or blood donation center. For further details about donating, you may visit redcrossblood.org or call 1.800.REDCROSS.

Medford United Methodist Church has been a presence in the village since 1821, with the first sanctuary built in 1824. Since 1972, the church has been located on Hartford Road and is a vital part of the Medford community. The people of Medford United Methodist Church are committed to growing in faith. MUMC members love God, serve people and hope to transform lives. For more information visit medfordumc.org.
