High school sports roundup: Cherry Hill East girls’ volleyball wins fifth straight match

In other Wednesday games, Cherry Hill East boys’ soccer, girls’ soccer and field hockey lost to Shawnee.

Cherry Hill East girls’ volleyball extended its winning streak on Wednesday afternoon at home as they swept Eastern Regional High School in straight sets; 25–8, 25–15.

Sarah Pintel led the Cougars with eight kills in the match. Kim Longa tallied seven digs and had three of the team’s 10 aces. Alana Cohen added five digs and Megan O’Rourke tallied 18 assists.

The win improved Cherry Hill East’s record to 9–4. Their next match will be at home against Lenape High School on Friday.

Boys’ and girls’ soccer teams fall short against Shawnee

Both the Cherry Hill East boys’ and girls’ soccer teams lost on Wednesday against Shawnee High School. The boys’ team fell, 3–1, at home, after leading the Renegades, 1–0 at halftime. Rob Sparrow scored 15 minutes into the game for the Cougars. However, Shawnee was able to tie the game a few minutes into the second half and took the lead halfway through the period.

The girls’ team was shut out by the Renegades, 3–0, on the road. Dana Goldstein scored twice for Shawnee in the win. Sam Bourne had four saves for Cherry Hill East.

Cherry Hill East field hockey loses to Shawnee at home

Cherry Hill East field hockey lost at home to Shawnee on Wednesday, falling by a score of 8–1. Ashley Wetzel led Shawnee with two goals and one assist. Sarah Allen scored the only goal of the game for the Cougars.
