Thursday, Sept. 22 is the first day of fall. Soon the streets of Haddonfield will be filled with colorful leaves and autumnal fashions. The beginning of fall also means a number of events will be coming to Haddonfield, beginning this coming weekend. Residents and visitors are invited to participate in celebrating the autumnal season.
“It’s a tradition for Haddonfield to host (these events),” Partnership for Haddonfield retail recruiter Remi Fortunato said. “There is something for everyone.”
Lions Club Flea Market and Police & Community Day
The fall season in Haddonfield kicks off with two events, the Lions Club Flea Market and Haddonfield Police & Community Day.
The 2016 Flea Market will be happening on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at One Centennial Square in Haddonfield, the parking lot of the Archer & Greiner law firm. The rain date is Oct. 1.
More than 75 vendors will be offering a wide assortment of new, used, vintage and antique items. Breakfast sandwiches, burgers and dogs as well as Philly-style pretzels, soft drinks and water will be for sale throughout the day.
Proceeds from vendor registration and refreshment sales benefit the Lions Club Blind Fund, which provides financial support for community programs and activities, and assistance to people with vision-related issues and those in need locally, regionally and throughout the world.
The Haddonfield Farmers Market will also be open that Saturday, and every Saturday through Oct. 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kings Court. The Haddonfield Friends of the Library Book Sale is back as well, from Sept. 23–25.
Also on Sept. 24, the Haddonfield Police & Community Day is a way for the police department to thank the community through a whole lot of fun. There will be inflatables, photo opportunities, K9 demonstrations, a DJ, refreshments and more, all for free. The fun begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. behind borough hall.

Girls’ Night Out!
October’s Girls’ Night Out!, featuring a fun-filled, ladies’ exclusive night of shopping, dining and relaxing, will once again be held on Thursday, Oct. 6 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Girls’ Night Out! is a free event in featuring in-store promotions, food, refreshments and musical entertainment.
“Girls’ Night Out! is a great night to get together with your mom, daughter, sister or girlfriend and shop, socialize and have dinner,” Fortunato said. “Each store will have their own individual discounts or services.”

Fall Festival and Juried Craft Show
Really getting into the fall spirit, the Annual Fall Festival and Juried Craft Show will occur on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“(Girl’s Night Out! and the Fall Festival) are great ways for us to showcase fall and winter fashion and for people to get a jump start on holiday shopping,” Fortunato said. “Specifically, the Fall Festival gives Haddonfield non-profit organizations time to showcase what they do.”
Community groups and artisans will participate in this event, taking place along Kings Highway between Haddon Avenue and the PATCO speedline. Kings Highway will be open to vehicular traffic, but the sidewalks will be lined with the non-profits featuring who they are, what they do and ways to join or donate. Crafter tents will also be lining Tanner Street, which will be closed to vehicular traffic. There will be various artwork, pottery, jewelry, glasswork and other craft items for visitors to admire and buy.
The Haddonfield Farmers Market will continue throughout the festival, except it will be in front of borough hall as scarecrow making, presented by the Junior Women’s Club of the Haddon Fortnightly, is back this year in Kings Court. There will also be carriage rides running from noon to 3 p.m., beginning and ending at Kings Court.
“The Fall Festival is a great event for the whole family. There are great non-profits for everyone, scarecrow making, and the Lions Club will be doing vision checks. It is a great family day downtown,” Fortunato said.
The rain date is Sunday, Oct. 16 from noon to 5 p.m.

Haddonfield Halloween Parade
Offering all residents a chance to show off their Halloween costume, from human to canine, is the annual Haddonfield Halloween Parade.
Put together by the Haddonfield Celebrations Association, the parade will take place on Oct. 30 with interested participants asked to line up at 6 p.m. at the corner of Chestnut Street and Kings Highway. Step off is a 6:30 p.m. where the parade will continue down to Borough Hall, where children can receive prizes.
Anyone is allowed to participate, including pets in costumes; just remember it is a family friendly event.
“The Halloween parade has been a tradition for ages. It gets everyone out and having a good time. Kids love dressing up and walking down the highway. I think it is a big treat for them,” George Cox of the Haddonfield Celebrations Association said.
The association helps to bring many events to Haddonfield such as the Halloween Parade, Tree Lighting and Santa Parade, and the Fourth of July Parade and Fireworks. To help continue these events, residents are asked to donate to the association; learn more at www.haddonfieldcelebrations.org.
