More than 43 Rowan College at Burlington County students, faculty, alumni and community members will showcase their talents at the ‘Abstract Encounters II’ exhibit, opening Sept. 21

The exhibit runs from Wednesday, Sept. 21 through Friday, Oct. 28 during normal gallery hours at the college’s Student Art Gallery in downtown Mt. Holly.

The abstract topic is considered to be any art that does not attempt to represent external reality, but seeks to achieve its effect using shapes, forms, colors and textures. The exhibit features 104 pieces including jewelry, mixed media, ceramics, sculpture, painting, drawing and photography.

An opening reception is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 8 in the Student Art Gallery on 1 High St. The reception and exhibit are free to the public.

The exhibit runs from Wednesday, Sept. 21 through Friday, Oct. 28 during normal gallery hours: Wednesdays and Fridays from noon to 3 p.m.; Thursdays from 3 to 7 p.m. and the second Saturday of the month from noon to 3 p.m. The exhibit was curated by Jessica Kane, campus curator.

RCBC’s Student Art Gallery is a part of the college’s transformation plan to create a modern campus experience. The plan calls for a larger arts presence in Mount Holly by moving the gallery to a more prominent location at the front of the college’s Mount Holly Center. The college’s fine arts studio, graphic design and fashion design programs will move to Mount Holly — joining the existing culinary arts programs in the fall of 2017.
