The 2016–2017 school year is right around the corner and the Moorestown Upper Elementary School, located at 325 Borton Landing Road, has an exciting whole-school program it has been planning for. In its fourth year, the Read It Forward program will feature the book written by authors Brad Montague and Robby Novak, “Kid President’s Guide to Being Awesome.”

The UES Read it Forward program is designed to enhance literacy skills, support character education and bring the school community together around one book. It also helps unite all three grades with a common goal of self improvement and self awareness.

“This goal is promoted in the classroom as well as the cafeteria and playground so the students feel it in every aspect of their day. We look for books with a positive message,” Assistant Principal Michelle Hassall said. “This year’s book was a break from a traditional novel, and we thought it would be a unique way to encourage literacy and kindness. It was also a subtle approach to citizenship during a presidential election year.”

“Kid President’s Guide to Being Awesome” is available in the main office for purchase. The cost is $9, and cash or checks are accepted. Checks should be made out to MTPS.

Continuing with the theme of “being more awesome” and being “somebody who makes everybody feel like somebody,” the program is designed to encourage students to read while developing positive character traits. Above all, the Moorestown Upper Elementary School wishes to help its students focus on individual success while also fostering success in its community.

Additionally, the school will be holding a Back to School Night on Sept. 13 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for grades four and five and on Sept. 14 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for grade six.
