Haddonfield student Sage Marino completed a two week summer journalism course at WHYY’s Dorrance H. Hamilton Public Media Commons.
“It was fun to meet new people,” said Marino, a student at Haddonfield Memorial High School. “I also liked going out and interviewing people.”
Intended for ninth to 12th graders, the award winning hands-on program gives students the opportunity to use WHYY production equipment to develop and produce news stories based on their interests, while under the tutelage of experienced media instructors. The intensive two week program also features lectures and training sessions from the staff of WHYY’s news department.
“We’ve been doing this since 2009,” said Education Director Craig Santoro. “We usually get between 30 and 45 participants each summer, spread over two sessions.”
Hamilton Commons offers middle and high school students opportunities to learn multimedia production skills through WHYY’s Afterschool Program, Young Journalists Summer Camp and the WHYY Film Academy. More information is available at www.whyy.org.
