Voorhees Library to hold semi-annual book sale, June 10 and June 11

The Camden County Library System will stage one of the largest used-book sales in South Jersey on Friday, June 10, from 10 a.m. — 9 p.m. and Saturday, June 11, 10 a.m. — 3 p.m. at its regional branch library in Voorhees.

The branch plans to offer 25,000 to 50,000 books, CDs, DVDs, videos, books-on-tape and more for sale at drastically reduced prices. About ninety percent of the items are donated by customers, collectors and estates, with used library materials making up only about ten percent of the stock at the Spring Book Sale.

Typically hundreds of book-lovers, bargain hunters and book dealers from the tri-state area are attracted to the event where 99 percent of the items will be priced between fifty cents and two dollars, with nothing over three dollars, according to William Brahms, branch manager of the Voorhees library and chief organizer of the sale.

The library’s semi-annual sales have always attracted large numbers of shoppers, but turnout and the number of items sold has been increasing steadily during the last several sales. Brahms speculates, “I think the demise of store chains like Borders and other brick and mortar book stores has created a real demand for the quality materials we offer at our sales. We are actually now filling a void left by the changing book publishing industry.”

All proceeds from the sale will go to support programs for customers of the Camden County Library System.
