On June 10 and 11, downtown Haddonfield will be having a POP-UP art show, the first show of its kind in Haddonfield.
The show will feature work from Haddonfield resident teacher and artist Gwynn Walker Di Pilla and her adult students. Di Pilla has been teaching painting, drawing and children’s art classes in town for over 20 years. Her classes are run by the Haddonfield Adult School, which is also the show’s sponsor.
This show is unique in that it is also a fundraiser for Water Is Basic, a non-profit group that digs and repairs wells for villages in South Sudan. Twenty percent of sales from artwork for this show will go directly to this group. Also, participating businesses in town will donate 5 percent of sales that day to Water is Basic. People who visit the show will receive a flyer with participating businesses and restaurants. All they have to do is bring it with them to that business. Attendees of the show will receive a 5 percent discount, and another 5 percent of purchases will be donated to Water is Basic.
The show will be displaying the last works of Dr. Robert Powell, who passed away in May of last year. He had been a student of Gwynn’s for 13 years. During this time he produced some amazing work. Recently, a memorial fund from his passing was given to another art group of special needs adults known as Pegasus, based in Westmont.
