Stay fit as a fiddle — both in mind and body — by attending a health fair and workshops offered this spring by Medford Leas.

Medford Leas’ Medford Campus is hosting a “Wellness for Older Adults” exposition on April 8, featuring a keynote presentation at 10 a.m. by Medford Lea’s Medical Director, Dr. Andie Iannuzzelli, DO, FACOI. Beginning at 11:15 a.m. and running until 12:45 p.m., participants can explore the expo, which will offer tips and strategies for living a wellness-based lifestyle.

“As we all age, we can face health concerns. By being aware of common conditions, you can be proactive and develop strategies to stay fit,” said Iannuzzelli. “If you live in America today, you can expect to live longer than ever before, meaning you’ll be managing chronic conditions in order to live as full a life as possible. Learn some valuable approaches to common conditions, such as arthritic pain, heart disease, osteoporosis, incontinence, sleeping disorders, obesity, and depression, in order to stay healthy.”

Iannuzelli notes that physical activity and losing weight are just two strategies that can help manage common chronic conditions, many of which do not use drug interventions.

After Iannuzelli’s keynote presentation, attendees will have the chance to visit with various health and wellness professionals who see older adults with common health issues on a daily basis.

For those who also are looking to keep their minds agile as well, Gerry Stride, therapeutic recreation director at Medford Leas, will lead two workshops titled “Brain Fitness: The Real Deal.”

Stride will speak on the term ‘brain fitness’ and how interest in the topic has grown exponentially as our population ages. She will explore fun and hands-on ways to incorporate the strengthening of cognition into daily life.

“In my workshop, you’ll learn simple strategies to employ on your own that can slow down the effects of age-related cognitive decline,” said Stride. “I promise you’ll leave with ideas on how to continue your own brain fitness program at home.”

Stride will lead the one-hour workshop at 10 a.m. in Medford Leas’ Lumberton Campus Community Center on April 5, and at 10 a.m. in Medford Leas’ Medford Campus holly room on May 17.

“Wellness for Older Adults” and “Brain Fitness: The Real Deal” are part of a series of programs being offered by Medford Leas this spring. The registration deadline for both programs is April 1. For a full listing of Pathways to Learning programs, or to register for a program, visit www.medfordleas.org or call (609) 654–3588.

Medford Leas is a nationally accredited not-for-profit community, guided by Quaker principles, for those who are 55 and older, with two campuses. The Medford Campus is located at 1 Medford Leas Way in Medford and the Lumberton Campus is located at 180 Woodside Drive in Lumberton.
