Spring has sprung! At least meteorological spring has sprung according to the weather man. Meteorological winter is the coldest quarter of the year (December-February), while meteorological summer is the warmest (June-August). The quarter between these periods is meteorological spring, which occurs from March through May. For the rest of us, spring will still arrive on March 21 with the vernal equinox.
Spring also means that it is time to file your income taxes. The library has many of the filing documents available including the usual 1040, 1040EZ, and 1040A. Other specialty documents can be printed for 5 cents a page.
We have another of our highly popular Mini-Maker Camps coming up on March 31 at 3:30 p.m. This is an exciting opportunity for children to be hands on with a variety of gadgets and experiments to stimulate their interest in science, technology, math and engineering. Children ages 5 to 12 are welcome, and registration is required.
Don’t forget our book discussion on March 29 at 6 p.m. for the adults. The novel is “Goodnight Nobody” by Jennifer Weiner. The story follows Kara Klein as she tries to solve a murder mystery while juggling three children and her own problems. Books are available at the library and light refreshments will be provided. You will also learn about the opportunity to meet the author at a later date.
Now that we have talked about some of the wonderful educational offerings at the library, how about a little gossip. Have you heard about Lynda? I’m talking about Lynda.com. This is a new resource for all things computer related. All you have to do is log in with your library card, and a world of video tutorials is at your fingertips. There are courses in popular programs like Photoshop and Dreamweaver, advanced courses in Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks Pro, and many more in education, business and audio visual.
