Haddonfield Plays and Players presents “The Last Night of Ballyhoo”

Alfred Uhry’s play “The Last Night of Ballyhoo” looks at anti-semitism in the south, following the story of the Freitags, a Jewish family that has highly assimilated in Atlanta, Ga. This Tony award-winning production hits the stage at Haddonfield Plays and Players this February and March.

It’s December 1939 and Hitler continues his invasion in Poland. Meanwhile in Atlanta, the Freitag family sets up a Christmas tree to show how far they’ve come as a Jewish family. Sunny Freitag is a junior at a liberal arts college. Her family is very excited for the Ballyhoo ball coming up, but she is preoccupied struggling with her Jewish identity. The issue is brought up as her relationship with Joe Farkas forces the two to reassess the identities each person holds. Will Sunny and Joe make it through the prejudices that threaten their relationship’s future?

The scheduled dates are a preview on Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m.; Feb. 19, 20, 26, 27 and March 2, 4, and 5 at 8 p.m.; and Feb. 21 and 28 at 2 p.m.

Haddonfield Plays and Players is located at 957 East Atlantic Ave. in Haddonfield. Tickets for “The Last Night of Ballyhoo” can be purchased online at the Haddonfield Plays and Players website at www.haddonfieldplayers.com/tickets.php.
