Haddonfield Commissioners meeting approves ordinance, Winter Fest

Last week’s commissioners’ meeting saw some big news with the borough announcing the purchase of the Bancroft site, but other items were also addressed beforehand.

Commissioners swore-in auxiliary police officers, authorized the appointment of Haddon Fire Company №1 memberships, gave a proclamation, approved an ordinance on second reading and authorized a number of resolutions.

The ordinance amended chapter 135 of the borough code, entitled “Land Development,” as it excluded a zone for personal services.

“There was an oversight when the ordinance was written. It included types I and II, but didn’t include type III. So we are including that to bring the ordinance up to date and accurate,” Mayor Jeff Kasko said.

Commissioners unanimously approved the ordinance.

Commissioners also approved the borough’s cash management plan for 2016 and the Partnership for Haddonfield’s Winter Fest.

The cash management plan discusses how the borough’s funds are handled and reporting requirements, according to Kasko. It is approved annually.

Winter Fest is a new event held downtown that will feature local businesses. There will be seasonal shopping, specials and entertainment on Saturday, Jan. 23 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 24 from noon to 4 p.m.

A proclamation was given to the Haddonfield Board of Education in recognition of School Board Recognition Month. Commissioners recognized the contributions of the local school board members, past and present, and expressed with sincerest appreciation their dedication to the academic, athletic and social achievements and well-being of the children.

The meeting also saw a number of auxiliary police officers, Haddon Fire Company №1 members and a firefighter explorer come before the commissioners to declare their service to the borough.

Five members of the auxiliary police officers, two fire company members and one firefighter

explorer were sworn in that night.

“I wanted to thank you for the many hours you put in and away from your families in Haddonfield,” Commissioner Neal Rochford said.
