Evesham and Voorhees extend Saving Lives free designated driver program

Since the implementation of the initiative in September of 2015 the Evesham Saving Lives program has been successful in preventing residents and visitors from operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

This initiative, administered by the Evesham Celebration Foundation, will continue to be fully funded by donations from various businesses, restaurants, and donors.

To date, the program has safely taken nearly 1000 Evesham and Voorhees residents to their home free of charge. The safe rides have led to an 83 percent reduction in the arrest of Evesham residents coming from local liquor establishments and a 55 percent reduction in overall DUI arrests.

“This has far exceeded my expectations,” Mayor Randy Brown said. “The ESL program has shown that DUIs can be reduced and should be a model for communities throughout the United States.”

Now through June 1, any Evesham and Voorhees residents will be provided a free ride home, 7 days a week, between the hours of 9 p.m. through 2 a.m. from any liquor establishment located within those 2 towns. Proof of residency in either Evesham or Voorhees Township is required. All free rides will be provided by Uber and BeMyDD.
