Mt. Laurel’s One Love Animal Rescue looks to find home for paralyzed dog

One Love Animal Rescue in Mt. Laurel has rescued a paralyzed 1-year-old black and tan coonhound mix dog named Blu and is now trying to find him a forever home.

When Blu innocently wandered into a neighbor’s back yard in rural Georgia, the heartless property owner grabbed his gun and shot him.

Badly injured, Blu dragged himself back home.

After discovering that Blu was seriously hurt, his owners searched for rescue help because they could not afford his medical care.

In fact, they could barely afford to feed him; a problem that is not uncommon in certain parts of rural Georgia.

After he suffered through two weeks without medical attention, Blu’s owners finally found a rescue group who would take him and arrange for veterinary care.

Allmon’s All about Animals in Georgia rescued Blu and sponsored his surgery. After hearing his tragic story and being inspired by his will to live, One Love Animal Rescue in Mt. Laurel offered to take him into their rescue and find him a forever home.

Animal Aid USA brought 1-year-old black and tan coonhound mix Blu to New Jersey on Oct. 18 on their monthly trek to save animals in the south.

On their previous transport in September, they were joined by the “Meredith Vieira Show,” and Animal Aid’s important work was featured on the Sept. 24 episode of the show.

While in Georgia, Vieira visited Allmon’s All about Animals and met Blu.

She presented him with a special cart so that he could “walk” for the first time in two months.

Upon arrival in New Jersey, One Love Animal Rescue took Blu into their care and immediately had him evaluated by two top veterinarians.

Unfortunately, both agreed that Blu will not regain the ability to walk. One Love is working with an expert in caring for paralyzed dogs and getting him into a new routine.

“It’s important for everyone to know that Blu’s sweet spirit is not at all affected by his paralysis. He plays with other dogs, cats, and people just as any other dog would,” says Blu’s foster mom and rescue chairman, Sherri Smith. “His care is only slightly different than other dogs, and he will be an incredible companion to some very lucky adopters.”

Independent and handi-capable, Blu is currently searching for his forever family.

If a member of the public would like to apply to adopt Blu, please visit www.oneloveanimalrescue.org.

Those looking to support the rescue can do by sending Blu an item from his special needs wish list at https://amzn.com/w/3NUCI8JNC6U7H.
