Haddonfield Commissioners approve events and submission of application for reconstruction of Centre and Ellis Streets

Commissioners unanimously gave approval last week to a slew of events, as well as the submission of an application for a grant from the state Department of Transportation for the reconstruction of Centre and Ellis streets.

Commissioners unanimously gave approval for the borough to apply for the grant under the Trust Fund for 2016. The desire is to use the grant for the reconstruction of Centre and Ellis streets, around the circle. The borough didn’t receive a grant last year, so it is reapplying hoping for approval this year.

“This would be to redo the streets from the circle, up Ellis Street, around the bend at the court, and back down to Lincoln Avenue, and this would be a DOT grant.

“Last year, we did not get a grant; we are reapplying this year to hopefully get one and be able to do those two blocks,” Commissioner John Moscatelli said.

Commissioners also unanimously approved “First Night Haddonfield 2015” to be held on Friday, Dec. 31 from 6 p.m. to midnight on Kings Highway and adjacent areas.

“Once again, we will have First Night being held on Dec. 31, New Year’s Eve, on Kings Highway with some closures and building uses throughout town,” Mayor Jeff Kasko said.

The authorization included the closing of Kings Highway from Haddon Avenue to PATCO and connecting at intersecting streets from 3 p.m. on Dec. 31 through 1 a.m. Jan. 1 for First Night. Vendors designated by the Haddonfield Cultural Events Commission First Night Steering Committee are allowed to sell food and goods in designated areas, and stationary outdoor entertainment will be provided.

Commissioners also approved a moratorium for overnight parking enforcement on First Night. During and after the activities, vehicles may be parked on borough streets between midnight and 6 a.m. on Jan. 1.

Other events approved include Haddonfield Uncorked and Paw It Forward. Haddonfield Uncorked will be held on Saturday, Nov. 14 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and is put on by the Partnership for Haddonfield. Paw It Forward will be held by Ivivva Athletica on Saturday, Oct. 24.
