Haddonfield resident dances during Papal Visit

Dancers from southern New Jersey and the Philadelphia, Pa. region were able to perform one of Pope Francis’ favorite types of Tango dances, during the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia at Independence Hall on Sept. 26. As students of the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School, the dancers performed a specially commissioned piece, choreographed for the occasion.

Under the direction of Meredith Klein, director of the school, they danced to the song, No Hay Tierra Como La Mia (There is No Country Like My Country), a tribute to the style of tango enjoyed by Pope Francis in his native Buenos Aires, and also performed La Cumparsita. In addition, Meredith Klein and Geoffrey Dominessy danced a duet to the song Paciencia, recorded by the Pope’s favorite tango orchestra, that of Juan D’Arienzo.

One dancer from Haddonfield was Steven F. Freeman of Haddonfield.
