Black Mass (Rated R)
Drama
Carol: Must See Now
A violent “based on a true story” about the life of Jimmy Whitey Bulger, the one man crime wave from Boston. If you like fast paced violence with plenty of “salty” speech you’ll love this. But the real reason to see it is the performance by Johnny Depp.
Phil: Worth the Matinee Price
Other than a history lesson of Boston crime, the film adds little to the crime/ mob genre. Johnny Depp — who you might not recognize — steps into the role of one of the most violent Boston mobsters in modern times. He may get a best actor nod , but I don’t think he’ll win the Oscar.
Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation (Rated: PG-13)
Action
Carol: Must See Now
Action packed Mission with a good solid storyline. Remembering that Tom Cruise does his own stunts, it makes this reiteration of the Mission series makes it all the better.
Phil: Must See Now
One of the best in recent memory……may revive Tom Cruise’s star power
The Intern (Rated PG)
Romantic Comedy
Carol: Worth the Matinee Price
Charming. Robert DiNiro and Anne Hathaway compliment each other perfectly as the senior retired gentleman and the young entrepreneur. This should appeal to a large age range.
Phil: Wait for the Video
Robert DeNiro as a retired exec who, out of boredom, applies for a senior intern position in a start up. As expected, he saves the day and the company. Almost a romantic comedy, but closer to a father- daughter “ bonding” movie
The Martian (Rated: PG-13)
Sci-Fi
Carol: Must See Now
Worth all the hoopla being said about this film. Matt Damon is super and his role is worthy of an Oscar nomination. From all I’ve read and heard, the science is pretty accurate making this even more amazing.
Phil: Must See Now
We don’t have to give you a summary since the title says it all and it’s been all over mass media. An excellent movie. Damon should be on the list for best actor; and it wouldn’t surprise me if the movie makes the list for best picture.
