Historical re-enactors to soon bring history to life at Evesham and other Burlington County Libraries

The Burlington County Library System is pleased to present a variety of re-enactors who will bring history to life by portraying famous historical figures at several library locations beginning this fall.

The new “Through Their Eyes” series will include presentations by the American Historical Theatre at the Burlington County Library in Westampton, and the Evesham, Cinnaminson and Bordentown branches. Hear “first-hand” accounts from some of history’s most fascinating people.

This program is funded by the Horizons Speakers Bureau of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Registration is not required and admission is free. The series will include:

Fly Bessie Fly — American civil aviator and first female pilot of African American descent on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. at the County Library.

Madame CJ Walker — African American entrepreneur, philanthropist and first female self-made millionaire in America on Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. at the Evesham Library.

Edgar Allen Poe — American author and poet best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre on Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. at the County Library.

Traditional Celtic Tales — Fables and folklore from the fascinating inhabitants of Scotland, Ireland and Wales on Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. at the Evesham Library.

Stephen Hopkins — Mayflower passenger and assistant to the governor of Plymouth Colony on Nov. 14 at 3 p.m. at the Cinnaminson Library.

Clara Barton — Civil War nurse and teacher who founded the American Red Cross on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Bordentown Library.

George Washington — Commander-in-chief of the Continental Army and first president of the United States on Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. at the County Library.

Abraham Lincoln — 16th President of the United States during the American Civil War on Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Bordentown Library.
