In anticipation of the upcoming cooler weather, AAA South Jersey will collecting coats and jackets on Sept. 25 and 26, and donating them to Volunteers of America for distribution at local shelters.

Donations will be accepted at AAA South Jersey headquarters in Voorhees, located at 700 Laurel Oak Road, directly across from the Flyers Skate Zone. Donations will be accepted on Friday, Sept. 25 from 8:45 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 26, from 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Collected items will be given to VOA Delaware Valley’s Housing and Supportive Services

Division’s three family emergency shelters: Agape House in Somerville; Anna Sample Complex in Camden; and the Eleanor Corbett House in Glassboro. Two VOA men’s shelters — Amani House in Trenton and the Aletha R. Wright “Vision of Hope” Center in Camden — will also receive collected items, as will “Home of the Brave,” a housing program for homeless veterans.

The focus of VOA’s Housing and Supportive Services program is the development of independence and self-sufficiency. The goal is to address the specific needs of each individual to help them overcome the factors that led to homelessness.

“We encourage everyone to go into their closets and find one jacket or coat they can donate,” said Rich Bradley, AAA South Jersey’s Public Affairs Specialist. “While it may be a coat that doesn’t get used any longer by its owner, that jacket can make a world of difference to someone who is going through a difficult time. We are proud to partner with VOA and to assist them with the good work that they do in helping people in our community who are looking to rebuild their life.”
