Haddonfield Plays and Players presents “Is He Dead?” starting Sept. 17

Publicity 029a

Mark Twain’s newly discovered comedy “Is He Dead?” hits the stage at Haddonfield Plays and Players Sept. 17 through Oct. 3. The play is set in Paris as Jean-François Millet, a painter, struggles to pay his debt to a corrupt picture dealer. In order to pay the dealer back, Millet fakes his own death to increase the value of his artwork.

Millet’s plan unfolds as the demand of his paintings grows. He disappears from life and invents himself a twin sister to disguise as. Twain questions fame, greed and the value of art with the comedy as Millet’s disguised character acts as a mad widow. How long will he be able to keep this up before getting caught?
