The Department of Parks and Rec Column

The Department of Parks & Recreation is gearing up for fall and in addition to the multitude of programs that will be available to youth, teens and adults, there are also a great variety of volunteer programs available. Over the last two years, the development and expansion of recreation volunteer opportunities has occurred, allowing advocates of recreation to volunteer their time!

With fall around the corner, volunteers are needed for the wide variety of youth programs that are available. From coaches for youth soccer and girls field hockey to volunteer youth referees and volunteers with the 3rd Floor Café Live, the Department of Parks & Recreation has volunteer opportunities for youth and adults alike.

For youth volunteers there are a wide variety of programs in which to volunteer. Every summer the Counselor In Training Jobs Program trains a wide spectrum of young people in recreation programs. These same young people are often looking for volunteer opportunities during the school year. Additionally, the many non-profit organizations that partner with the Department of Parks & Recreation utilize volunteers in a variety of ways. Young people interested in volunteering with the department are encouraged to contact Kahra Buss at kbuss@moorestown.nj.us and request a volunteer application. From sports to arts classes to clinics and special events, young people can volunteer and earn service hours for their time.

This fall, soccer players who are interested in being volunteer soccer referees are welcome to contact Cyndi Britton at cbritton@moorestown.nj.us. Being a volunteer referee allows young people an opportunity to develop their love for and knowledge of the game while earning service hours. Young people interested in volunteering with any of the youth sports leagues and clinics should complete a volunteer application.

For adults interested in volunteering with the department, there is a simple process. Contact Theresa Miller and set an appointment to complete a state background check. Once the background check has been completed, volunteering is simple — whether with youth sports leagues or at the Church Street Recreation Center, there are plenty of opportunities available. For businesses seeking volunteer team building days, the department has plenty of opportunities as well. As was evidenced by the TTI Environmental Green Team, volunteering in the community can be a fun and beautiful experience!

Volunteering with the Moorestown Department of Parks & Recreation is a fun and active way to be involved in the Moorestown Community. For more information, please contact the Department of Parks and Recreation at (856) 914–3093.
