The Department of Parks and Rec Column

This fall, the Department of Parks & Recreation is pleased to host a Recreation Open House, Saturday, Sept. 12 at the Church Street Recreation Center. This Open House is in lieu of the Recreation Soccer Kickoff that has occurred over the last two years. After much consideration, the Recreation Department decided to host this annual kick-off event as an Open House, so that Moorestown residents can have a first-hand look at the continuously growing center and the programs the department offers.

As the Recreation Youth Soccer league gets under way, coaches and participants are invited to attend the Open House. This is an opportunity to receive their team shirts, rules and regulations and meet the coaches. The Recreation Soccer League has a nearly 50 year history in Moorestown and has served as the foundation for many novice soccer players.

Additionally, the Recreation staff will be opening the doors of the center to showcase the Third Floor Art Studio, the Recreation Commercial Kitchen and other new and exciting facets of recreation. Recreation staff will be onsite to answer questions, give tours and show samples of the work being done in these spaces.

The Department of Parks and Recreation Open House will showcase, not only the offerings of the department, but the community collaboration that makes many opportunities possible. On-site will be the numerous organizations that make the department’s programming possible.

Live Civilly will be on hand, collecting food for the Live Civilly/Moorestown Ministerium Food Pantry and showcasing the ExCELS Program that includes after school healthy snacks and Homework Help in addition to life skills programs that will be unveiled this winter. Sean Fischel Connect will be present with information about their upcoming run on Nov. 8, proceeds from which supported the expansion of the Special Needs Summer Program this year, the Recreation Youth Soccer program and support. The Perfect Game will be collecting gently used sports equipment as well as offering equipment to local youth. MooreKids will offer information about scholarship availability for recreation programs and more. MoorArts will showcase its many arts programs and opportunities offered to Moorestown residents.

Be sure mark your calendars for Saturday, Sept. 12. Stop by and see, first-hand, all that your Department of Parks and Recreation has to offer. From youth programs to active adult and senior programs, there truly is something for everyone! To see current program listings visit moorestown.nj.us/253/Parks-Recreation.
