Mayor’s Column: Initial meeting of Voorhees Amputee & Stroke Organization set for Sept. 1

Voorhees Mayor

On Tuesday, Sept. 1 the initial meeting of the Voorhees Amputee & Stroke Organization (VASO) will meet in the Voorhees Town Hall at 7 p.m. Lieutenant Roger Miller of the Voorhees Fire District will be leading this group. Lt. Miller is a certified peer visitor with the Amputee Coalition of America and an amputee. The focus of the group is to introduce a wide variety of information and activities to amputees and people who have suffered a stroke, as well as their families and caregivers.

The VASO is focused on the idea that peer support is critical to the recovery and adjustment of amputees and stroke victims. The group will provide much needed information from those who have experienced the loss or diminished use of limbs and will work with other organizations that have provided limitless boundaries through advice, the media and new equipment/technology.

Physicians, therapists and prosthetists from various medical facilities will be working with Lt. Miller and will be supportive of the efforts of VASO. The goal of this new group is to help amputees and stroke survivors focus on their abilities.

VASO will meet the first Tuesday of each month at the Voorhees Town Hall at 7 p.m. For more information, contact Roger Miller at (609) 922–6358 or email at info@vaso.us.
