It was a light agenda at the July 21 meeting of the Haddonfield Board of Commissioners with only one ordinance, but because of that ordinance, the borough’s Historic District is one step closer to becoming one property smaller.
At the meeting, commissioners held a first reading for an ordinance that would officially amend the chapter of the borough’s code dealing with the Historic District to remove from the district a residential property on Warwick Road.
The property in question was not originally listed on the borough’s map of the Historic District, yet once the owners of the property purchased it, confusion arose as to whether it was in the Historic District.
The case eventually made its way to Planning Board and then came to the commissioners, who settled the matter.
At the June meeting, the settlement was approved stating the house is not a part of the Historic District. Now that a first reading was held on the ordinance to officially make the change, a public hearing and potential adoption is scheduled for the commissioners’ August meeting.
In other news:
• The board approved several appointments at the meeting, including Steven J. Peterson as the borough’s new prosecutor, several Environmental Commission members, an appointee to the Human Relations Commission and about 20 appointments to the Haddonfield Municipal Alliance.
• Pursuant to state law, the board appointed a staff member as a qualified purchasing agent, which increases the bidding threshold to $40,000 before contracts must be awarded through the public bidding process.
• Commissioners authorized the signing of a legal settlement between the borough and Paramount Enterprises, which the commissioners said ends a legal situation between the borough and the company that previously did some road work in the town.
• The board approved awarding several bids for three pieces of public works equipment the borough will be buying as capital purchases, including a truck to be used for recycling, a towable brush chipper/shredder and a trailer mounted self-vacuum leaf collector.
• Commissioners authorized some amendments to the borough’s personnel policy and procedure manual for employees. The commissioners said from time to time, changes and tweaks have to be made regarding things such as hours and compensation.
• The borough is selling surplus no longer needed for public use on an online auction. Items being sold include three metal filing cabinets of different sizes, a mail lockbox and a computer monitor. The items will be sold at www.govedeals.com.
• Commissioners approved the event permit for the Haddonfield Soccer Club Keith Schwab Kick-Off Classic on Aug. 29. The U8 — U12 boys and girls tournament is held in honor of Schwab, the former HSC president who passed in 2013. The tournament is held in the memory of Schwab’s contributions and efforts toward the children of the Haddonfield Soccer Club.
• The next Board of Commissioners meeting is scheduled for Aug. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
