Mayor’s Column: National Night Out returns Aug. 4

Voorhees Mayor

National Night Out is an annual community building campaign that promotes police community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods a safer and better place in which to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement, while encouraging a sense of community and providing a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together.

Citizens, law enforcement agencies, community groups, businesses, youth organizations and local, state, and federal officials from over 16,500 communities from all 50 states, US territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide will join forces to mark this year’s 32nd National Night Out. Over 38 million people participated in National Night Out last year.

Voorhees Township will be part of National Night Out on Tuesday evening, Aug. 4, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event will be held at the Voorhees Town Center and will include members of our police department, including our K9’s, the Fire Department, EMS, the Domestic Violence Task Force and Safe Kids New Jersey. The night will include activities sponsored by AAA, the Skate Zone, Lowe’s, Rizzieri’s, the Animal Welfare Association, and more. An area will be set up for kids to see and sit in emergency vehicles. The Voorhees Town Center will provide a DJ and food trucks will also be on hand.

The best way to prevent crime is to know your neighbors and your surroundings. National Night Out triumphs over a culture that isolates us from each other and allows us to rediscover our own communities.
