Letter to the Editor: Does Comcast have township monopoly? Why?

Letter

I receive your newspaper and decided I would like to write something that perhaps you would consider putting in your paper.

Why does it appear that Comcast Television Cable is a monopoly in the Voorhees Township? We live in a 55 plus development and cannot get Verizon Cable TV. We have the Internet and phone service. When I asked the secretary at our clubhouse, she stated I had to call the township, and when I called the township they stated I have to call Verizon.

Verizon explained that we would have to have the development make a commitment for five years to use their service in order for them to consider putting the FIOS line in. I then found out that Comcast gives our development money each year because we only have Comcast.

It seems to me that this is unethical business to be getting payoff’s for using one particular cable company and has stopped the other from investing in our township.

Therefore the citizens of Voorhees Township are not getting a choice with their cable TV and do not have any negotiation opportunities.

If there are lines for computers and phone why can’t the TV cable be installed?

Does anyone have an answer to this and does our mayor think that it wouldn’t be helpful to have Verizon Cable TV in our area. Wouldn’t the taxes help our Township?

Please give this letter consideration. I would like to know if there is any interest from our citizens regarding the above issue.

Sincerely,

Sandi Campione
