The Department of Parks and Rec Column

Summer has finally arrived! Whether you finished the school year at a breakneck pace or limping over the finish line, you made it! Now the question is — what to do?

Luckily for Moorestown residents, there are no shortage of programs and activities available for those of us who “summer in Moorestown.”

The Department of Parks and Recreation is pleased to offer a multitude of programs not the least of which is the continuation of the Recreation Open Gym and the new summer addition, “Chillin’ on the 3rd Floor,” sponsored by the Moorestown Youth Outreach Association. The Recreation Open Gym runs Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and offers Moorestown youth an indoor space to play basketball. Additionally, the continued support of Live Civilly and the Moorestown Ministerium provides healthy snacks for youth in attendance. The Open Gym program has grown steadily over the last year and the Recreation Center is pleased to announce its continuation during the summer months.

This summer, the Moorestown Youth Outreach Association is pleased to announce “Chillin’ At The Rec” program. During the hot summer months, area youth are invited to visit the Church Street Recreation Center and enjoy games and activities with teen volunteers. Board games, fusbal, ping pong, pool arts and crafts will be available on the third floor of the center. This relaxed (and cool) environment gives Moorestown Youth another option in the summer time to play with friends in the safe and nurturing environment of the Recreation Center.

The Moorestown Youth Outreach Association is an organization dedicated to bringing the youth of Moorestown together by providing safe and fun opportunities designed to foster strong character development and positive behavior. This youth driven organization provides young people with the opportunity to develop lasting friendships between teen mentors and youth.

Chillin’ At The Rec will run Monday through Thursday during the summer months from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Young people wishing to participate can visit the Recreation Center during these hours and receive their Rec Center ID and enjoy all of the activities the Recreation Center has to offer.

One of the greatest things about living in a community like Moorestown is the wide variety of activities available for every child and every family. From day trips for senior citizens to athletics and arts for youth and families, the Department of Parks and Recreation is committed to providing something for everyone.
