There are multiple neighborhoods in Medford that were severely impacted by the storm on June 23rd. A great many residents have significant brush and tree debris from the storm. The Township wishes to update residents of the following as officials and staff are dealing with the aftermath.
Township officials have been working with the County and State Offices of Emergency Management and FEMA representatives to see if the State and/or Federal government will issue a declaration that would assist with the current and future expenses related to this storm. Presently, it does not appear that the township is equipped with the number of staff or equipment to pick up the amount of brush debris left by the storm as efficiently as private contractor(s) will be able to. In consultation with staff, I am soliciting bids for brush and tree removal. This process is mandated by state statutes. The bid process takes time and residents are asked to be patient.
Township officials and crews are still assessing and responding to storm damage. Residents may put brush and tree debris curbside now. Please note that brush and trees may not be placed in the street impeding traffic. Storm drains must also be kept clear of any debris. Details will be announced as soon as they are set within the parameters of the bid specifications. Yard waste may not be put in trash containers. Containers with yard waste may be left uncollected by the trash contractor and will not be picked up until your next scheduled trash day once free of yard waste. Please understand that per our contract with Casworth Enterprises, any yard waste is not allowed because it is considered recyclable and thus trash trucks may be rejected at the county landfill.
The township garage is open every morning this week thru Thursday from 7 a.m. — 1 p.m. to accept limbs, branches, and spoiled food, along with other recyclables. The garage is also open Thursday afternoon from 11:30–3 p.m. for not only trees but also any refuse that residents need to dispose of. The garage will be closed on Friday for the legal holiday. If you have larger items to dispose of, please email BulkPickUp@medfordtownship.com to inquire if its eligible for collection under our bulk pick up program, and when it should be put out for collection.
To assist our Office of Emergency Management with obtaining an accurate account of the damage that was sustained during the storm Tuesday night, we are asking residents who sustained damage to their homes and/or property to complete this form via this link. damagereports.iicep.com/selfassessall.php?e=84&c=BURLINGTON. This information is being forwarded to the county, who is compiling data to go to the state for the emergency declaration, which if granted may bring federal and state funds to Medford and its residents to assist in the recovery effort.
