Letter to the Editor: Will Kirkwood Lake issues ever be fixed?

Letter

Here’s a Letter to the Editor to The Sun regarding the ongoing issues and environmental impact surrounding Kirkwood Lake.

The Sun recently had story on an EPA proposed $14 million plan to remove lead and arsenic soil at 33 residential properties in Voorhees and Gibbsboro.

This editorial of mine will be considered another nuisance to the “Success Address Voorhees.” Since the inception of the problems with the heavy (lead) metals in Kirkwood Lake (1980s) Sherwin-Williams promised it would all be taken care of no later than 10 years. It is now mid-2015. First they denied any problems. The latest letter I received announced the EPA found arsenic in several places of my property. Oh yes, 2018 is their latest projection of when all will be rectified. I have lost hope believing in politicians and bureaucracy in general. If I ever hoped to sell my property, I would most likely never be able to do so. Who wants a home with arsenic? Dissatisfied, no not me! I was expecting lies from the politicians, especially NJ politicians.

Hardship-ingly your, Patricia Smith
