The Shamong Township School District held a special board meeting on April 14 to award bids for a handful of the projects that have recently been in discussions.

These capital projects are being funded through the 2015–2016 budget as well as grant money from the School Development Authority.

The Shamong Township Board of Education advertised for classroom air-conditioning and window replacement at the Indian Mills School, and exterior door replacement at the Indian Mills Memorial School.

At April 14’s meeting, the board awarded a contract for the projects as outlined in bid specifications dated in March.

“It’s actually part of a ROD grant that the school district applied for,” Board Secretary Marie Goodwin said. “The school development authority grant awarded this grant money from the regular operating district fund accounting for 40 percent of the project.”

These three projects are all a part of the township’s long-range facilities plan, which is essentially a list of all the different projects it plans to complete over the next 10 years. They are all put in a database that is updated every time a new project is put in play.

The total projected cost for the classroom air conditioning was approved by the department of education at $1.2 million. The ROD grant would cover 40 percent of this, which is $476,800, leaving $715,200 for the local share.

The projection for the windows being replaced at the elementary school totaled $169,000. The ROD grant will cover $67,600, leaving $101,400 for the local share.

The exterior door replacement projections totaled $131,000 with the ROD grant covering $52,000 and the local share covering $78,600.

The lowest bidder was awarded at the meeting. The Air-conditioning project was awarded to Estock Piping Company. The replacement of the exterior doors and replacement of windows was awarded to Levy Construction Company.

The township is planning on late summer for the start time of these projects.
