Arson, drug charges top Mt. Laurel Police Blotter this week

The following information was provided by the Mt. Laurel Police Department.

On April 21 at 4 a.m., Mt. Laurel Police responded to a residence on the unit block of West Bluebell Lane for a fire. The investigation determined that someone intentionally set a small fire to the exterior of a residence. The fire was discovered by the resident prior to causing any significant damage to the residence.

On April 23 at 9:30 a.m., Mt. Laurel Police arrested a 21-year-old male at his residence on West Azalea Lane for an arson that occurred on West Bluebell Lane on April 21. He was transported to a hospital for an evaluation and later charged with arson and criminal mischief.

On April 20 at 3:15 p.m., Mt. Laurel Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on the 1100 block of Route 73. The investigation led to the discovery of crack, heroin, marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. The three occupants of the vehicle were arrested and charged with drug and drug paraphernalia possession charges. A 23-year-old man from Philadelphia and a 25-year-old woman from Cherry Hill were charged and released pending a court hearing. Another 23-year-old man from Philadelphia was charged with the drug offenses as well as promoting prostitution. Bail was set at $15,000 with no 10 percent option and he was committed to the Burlington County Jail.

A resident of the 100 block of Oliphant Lane reported an unknown suspect made approximately $5,000 in fraudulent withdrawals from the victim’s bank account using his personal information. The incidents occurred on April 19 in the state of Florida.

On April 21 at 12:30 p.m., a patron of Bobby Chez on Centerton Road reported she accidentally left her purse in the store. When she returned approximately 10 minutes later it was gone.

On April 21 at 11:18 a.m., Mt. Laurel Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Church Road near Arbor Way. During the stop officers arrested a 27-year-old man from Willingboro. He was charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams and released pending a court hearing.

On April 21 at 1:45 p.m., Mt. Laurel Police arrested a 20-year-old man from Mt Holly at the YMCA on Centerton Road. He was charged with theft after an investigation determined he stole an iPhone from the basketball court area. He was released pending a court hearing.

On April 21 at 7:15 p.m., Mt. Laurel Police arrested a 15-year-old male township resident for theft of mislaid property. The juvenile attempted to sell an iPhone he had allegedly found at his school. He was released to the custody of his guardian pending a family court hearing.

On April 22 at 1 p.m., Mt. Laurel Police responded to the area of Ark Road and Coventry Way for the report of a suicidal man with a gun walking in the area. On arrival officers located a 52-year-old township resident walking along Ark Road. Officers approached him and determined that he had a handgun in his possession. He was taken into custody without incident. The handgun turned out to be a realistic looking CO2 powered pellet gun, complete with a metal slide and removable magazine. The subject was transported to a hospital for evaluation and later charged with unlawful possession of a weapon.

On April 22, an employee of Sprint Wireless reported the theft of 20 Alcatel-Lucent batteries from a cell phone tower facility located on the 400 block of Mt. Laurel Road. The theft occurred sometime within the last several months.

On April 22 at 9:50 p.m., a member of LA Fitness on Dearborn Circle reported that his wallet was stolen from an unlocked locker in the men’s locker room. He reported that his credit cards were then fraudulently used at several locations outside of Mt. Laurel.

On April 23, a resident of the 100 block of Wharton Road reported their 1994 Toyota Camry was stolen from the parking lot sometime between April 15 and 22.

On April 23, at 7:30 p.m., Mt. Laurel Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 73 near Howard Boulevard. During the stop officers arrested a 28-year-old man from Mt. Laurel after he provided a false name in an attempt to avoid arrest on an outstanding warrant. He was charged with hindering his own apprehension and released pending a court hearing after satisfying the warrant.

A resident on Tarnbrook Drive reported someone broke the glass storm door of the residence on April 24 between 8 a.m. and 5:40 p.m.

On April 25 at 12:40 a.m., Mt. Laurel conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 73 near Fellowship Road. During the stop officers arrested a 24-year-old man from Palmyra. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and released pending a court hearing.

On April 25 at 10:45 p.m., Mt. Laurel Police responded to Alderton Lane for a disturbance. A vehicle that had been at the disturbance was spotted by an officer on Union Mill Road near Hartford Road. Upon seeing the officer the suspect stopped his vehicle on the front lawn of a residence on the 300 block of Hartford Road and then fled on foot into a wooded area. Officers located and arrested the driver, a 37-year-old man from Mt. Laurel. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, hindering his own apprehension and criminal mischief. He was turned over to another law enforcement agency for an outstanding arrest warrant.

On April 26 at 1 a.m., Mt. Laurel Police located a disabled vehicle on Route 73 near the New Jersey Turnpike. During the investigation officers arrested the driver, a 22-year-old woman from National Park. She was charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released pending a court hearing.
