Mother of Mt. Laurel murder suspect taken into custody by police

The mother of a Mt. Laurel man charged in January with killing his wife was arrested on the morning of March 16 on charges of helping her son attempt to conceal his actions after he committed the crime.

Jo Crosby, a 67-year-old woman from Sicklerville, was charged with one count of third degree hindering apprehension and one count of third degree tampering with physical evidence by destroying records. Her son Kyle Crosby, age 28, was charged Jan. 13 with murder for the death of his wife, 26–year-old Erica Crippen.

Jo Crosby was taken into custody this morning at her residence at approximately 6:30 a.m. by law enforcement officers from the Mt. Laurel Police Department, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and the Gloucester Township Police Department.

“We believe Jo Crosby played a major role in helping her son Kyle conceal the crime of murder,” Prosecutor Robert Bernardi said. “She assisted his efforts to conceal the body of his wife, Erica Crippen, after he took her life.”

Due to the ongoing investigation, the specific acts that led to charges against Jo Crosby will not be discussed at this time.

Bail was set at $12,500 with 10 percent permissible. Unless she posts bail, Jo Crosby will face a first appearance this afternoon in Superior Court in Burlington

Erica Crippen’s remains have not yet been recovered by law enforcement. The investigation is being conducted by detectives from the Mt. Laurel Police Department, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey State Police Missing Persons Unit.
