ChildrenSong of New Jersey hosts Sakura Songfest on March 21

Sakura Songfest being held on March 21, is a one-day exploration of Japanese culture through music, art, games, and activities for young musicians and artists in grades third through sixth.

Professional music and art teachers Polly Murray and Kristin Kimmel who recently traveled to Japan to study customs, music, art and the Japanese language will lead this program.

“Songfest is a one-day cultural experience to explore art and music of different countries. Through hands-on cultural experiences, we hope that children will better understand the many different people of our world,” Polly Murray, artistic director ChildrenSong of New Jersey, said.

The artistic staff and other local music teachers will assist the children as they sing Japanese songs, learn some simple phrases, create art projects, learn to use chopsticks and play Japanese games at Haddonfield Middle School.

The day starts with registration at 8 a.m. and ends with a presentation at 2 p.m. for parents and friends. For the $25 participation fee, the student will receive a Songfest shirt, snacks, water, small art project, chopsticks and packet of activities and songs learned through the day.

Register now for this exciting, unique experience for young musicians and artists in third through sixth grade.
