The Moorestown High School’s Interact Club once again will be showing its commitment to helping the community this Saturday with its biggest charity event of the year.

For the 13th year, MHS Interact Club is hosting its annual “Soup for the Soul” charity event, which will be held on Saturday, Feb. 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Moorestown. Those who attend are granted access to a buffet-style meal with all-you-can-eat soup and bread for a small fee. All proceeds will be donated to Philabundance, an organization dedicated to ending hunger in the Delaware Valley.

“It is one of our biggest and longest running charity events,” said MHS senior Saylor Brisson, former Interact Club president and advertising co-chair for “Soup for the Soul.”

“Soup for the Soul,” though hosted by MHS’s Interact Club, has additional supporters. The group has been working with local businesses, which were willing to help. Local restaurants donated the soup and bread that will be served throughout the afternoon. The event also features raffle and silent auction items donated by local businesses and larger organizations such as Happy Hippo, Moorestown Running Company, Philly Pretzel Factory, Panera Bread, Philadelphia sports teams and more.

Also at the event will be live entertainment. Music will be provided by local musicians and there is a possibility that radio station 104.5 will be there as well.

“It is great to see everything come into place. We start meetings in the beginning of the school year and plan everything up until the event, and have a lot of work afterward. It is amazing to see all of our hard work pay off,” Brisson said.

Tickets will be sold at the door for $10 for adults and $7 for seniors and children. There is also a new takeout option, where for $10, you will receive a container of your favorite soup, as well as two pieces of bread. All proceeds will be donated to Philabundance.

“We think Philabundance is a great charity since they are trying to end hunger. ‘Soup for the Soul’ is kind of a play off of soup kitchens. Instead of giving soup to those who need it, we raise money using soup that we can donate to those in need,” Brisson said.

About 200 people came in years past, but Brisson said the club would love to see greater attendance each year. Last year, the club raised more than $4,000, and at $0.50 a meal, this provided more than 8,000 meals for the hungry and malnourished throughout the Delaware Valley. This year, the goal is $5,000.

“We’re hoping to keep increasing attendance. It’s really great to have as many people as we can,” Brisson said.

The MHS Interact Club would love for families, friends, residents and others to attend on Saturday, Feb. 28. For just $10, not only can you have an enjoyable afternoon, but also help those in need. MHS Interact Club is dedicated to serving the community and is sponsored by Rotary International.
