Shamong Schools 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament: Eighth graders vs. Faculty

Basketball2

On Jan 30 the faculty of Indian Mills Memorial School joined an eighth grade all-star team on the basketball court to open the fourth annual Three on Three Basketball tournament to raise money for the District’s Athletic Booster Club. Opening the festivities with a rousing rendition of our “Star Spangled Banner” by seventh grade student Hannah Butler, the school’s fifth through eighth grades settled in for an entertaining afternoon. The cheerleading squad performed flawlessly, keeping the students engaged; and the teams focused. At the end of a 40 minute hard fought game, the faculty came away with a 10 point victory and incited the crowd to greater games as the night wore on.

Three on three teams for grades four through eight played until almost 10 p.m. to crowds that rotated through to cheer on their children, friends, and classmates. When the final tally was taken, the Booster Club raised $4200 for the school’s athletic programs. In the past, events such as this have helped to defray costs for uniforms, equipment, coaches, and transportation. It also helps to keep the monetary outlays of parents down and allow the district budget flexibility in how it uses taxpayers’ dollars.

The entire event was coordinated by Tim Carroll, IMMS principal with the priceless assistance of the Home and School Association, faculty, and student volunteers. This is truly an “in house” project.
